T-Mold for Laminate – Product and Installation – Superseded Profile

T-Mold is commonly used in doorways to join two laminate floors in adjoining rooms. Also recommended when making a transition from laminate floor to another floor that is approximately the same height.

Product Features

  • Used to fill the gap between two floors of equal height.
  • Surface material: High wear resistant aluminum oxide laminate
  • Core material: Moisture resistant MDF

Materials and Tools:

  • Track: metal track (for 9-12 mm floors) (not included)*
  • 1/8″ MDF or wood shim (for 12-15 mm floors) (not included)**
  • #6 x 5/8″ wood screws (when using track)
  • Pencil
  • Tape measure
  • Saw
  • Screwdriver
  • Urethane construction adhesive
  • Color coordinated filler
  • Damp cloth

Installation Procedures

FOR 8 MM FLOORS:

Fasten the T Mold to the subfloor. Do NOT fasten it to the floorcovering.

Step 1: Install the flooring planks and underlayment, while leaving a 1″ (25 mm) wide gap for the installation of the T Mold.

Step 2: Run a bead of urethane construction adhesive between the laminate planks.

Step 3: Gently press the molding straight into the adhesive and adjust to make sure it is straight.

FOR 9-12 MM FLOORS:

Step 1: Install the flooring planks and underlayment, while leaving a 1″ (25 mm) wide gap for the installation of the T Mold.

Step 2: Center the track between the two laminate planks and screw it to the subfloor using #6 x 5/8″ wood screws.

Step 3: Gently press the molding into the track, starting from one end and progressing toward the other. DO NOT TRY TO PUSH THE ENTIRE MOLDING IN ALL AT ONCE.

FOR 12-15 MM FLOORS:

Step 1: Install the flooring planks and underlayment, while leaving a 1″ (25 mm) wide gap for the installation of the T Mold.

Step 2: Center the track and shim between the two laminate planks and screw them to the subfloor using #6 x 5/8″ wood screws.

Step 3: Gently press the molding into the track, starting from one end and progressing toward the other. DO NOT TRY TO PUSH THE ENTIRE MOLDING IN ALL AT ONCE.
