Caring for Hartco HartWood Finish Hardwood Flooring in Commercial Applications

HartWood Finish (Without Permion) Acrylic Impregnated Floors

Preventive Maintenance

  • Place mats at all entrances to help prevent dirt and other debris from being tracked onto the floor. Rugs and mats should be slip resistant with a backing that is breathable and will not discolor the floor. All mats should be vacuumed daily.
  • Use protective castors/castor cups (non-marking rubber) or felt glides on the legs of furniture, racks, chairs and tables etc. to prevent scratching, scuffing and other damage to the hardwood floor.
  • Never damp mop with water. It may permanently damage the floor. Use Bruce Hardwood & Laminate Floor Cleaner to remove spills or spots. For stubborn spots, use low odor mineral spirits.
  • Recognizing that hardwood floor dimensions will be slightly affected by varying levels of humidity within your building, care should be taken to control humidity levels within the 35–55% range. To protect your investment and to assure that your floors provide lasting satisfaction, we have provided our recommendations below.
    • Heating Season (Dry): A humidifier is recommended to prevent excessive shrinkage in hardwood floors due to low humidity levels. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to create very dry conditions.
    • Non-Heating Season (Humid, Wet): Proper humidity levels can be maintained by use of an air conditioner, dehumidifier, or by turning on your heating system periodically during the summer months. Avoid excessive exposure to water from tracking during periods of inclement weather. Do not obstruct in any way the expansion joint around the perimeter of your floor.
  • Remove any adhesive on the flooring with low odor mineral spirits and a clean cloth.
  • Following installation, the floor should be swept, dust mopped or vacuumed to remove any grit or debris that could scratch the floor.
  • Apply Betco Easy Task and buff with a commercial buffer. Slow speed buffers under 1,000 RPM: Use a medium-coarse nylon pad (equivalent to a 3M red pad) and buff dry. High speed buffers over 1,000 RPM: Use a high speed pad (equivalent to a 3M beige pad) and buff until dry and shiny.
  • Following a regular maintenance schedule, sweep, dust mop or vacuum to remove any grit or debris that could scratch the floor.
  • Do not use oil-treated dust mops.
  • For spot cleaning, dampen a clean cloth with Bruce Hardwood & Laminate Floor Cleaner and rub until clean. Large areas can be cleaned by misting Bruce Hardwood & Laminate Floor Cleaner on the area and wiping until clean and dry with a soft towel or swivel-head mop.

  • As an alternative, buff the floor using a commercial low speed buffer (less than 500 rpm) and a red nylon pad (3M or equivalent). Apply Bruce Hardwood & Laminate Floor Cleaner to the surface in the path of the buffing machine using a misting bottle while proceeding throughout the installation. Betco Easy Task should be applied as needed. (See Initial Care above.)
  • To enrich color in small worn or scratched areas, apply Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax and buff according to directions on the label.
  • Once the color has been enriched and the Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax is thoroughly dry, apply Betco Easy Task and buff. (See Initial Care above.)

NOTE: Wait at least 24 hours or until Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax is thoroughly dry before applying Betco Easy Task . Betco Easy Task applied over Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax that is not dry will turn cloudy.

Water Spots
Minerals or chemicals in water may cause spotting when water from spills evaporates. These spots can be removed with a soft cloth dampened with Bruce Hardwood & Laminate Floor Cleaner or white vinegar.

Scratches
For light scratches or color loss on Hartco Acrylic Impregnated floors, apply Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax. To repair deep scratches on Hartco Acrylic Impregnated floors, lightly abrade with 00 steel wool or 220 grit sandpaper; then apply Dura Seal Neutral Liquid Floor Wax. Repairs may also be made by replacing individual slats or units.

Rubber Heel Marks, Crayon, Gum or Asphalt Deposits
